FLOWER ESSENCES
What are essences?
Essences have been used therapeutically for thousands of years as a very effective way to balance mental, emotional, spiritual and physical problems. Most essences are made from flowers but others are based on gems or the environment. The first modern flower essences were developed by a British physician, Dr Edward Bach during the 1930s, perhaps the best known being Rescue Remedy which is now widely used. Since then, many other ranges of essences have been introduced and in my practice I currently use Australian Bush, Indigo and Bailey.
How do essences work?
Dr Bach strongly believed that it was essential to treat the mind in order to bring about the healing of a sick body. He also believed that nature contains everything we need for healing so he turned to the plant world and selected certain flowers he felt had the necessary healing qualities. He said that by taking essences we 'flood' the body with positive qualities, strengthening undeveloped areas of our being whilst negative aspects start to 'melt away'.
What can essences treat?
Essences, like homeopathic remedies, can treat a very wide range of conditions both emotional and physical. They are particularly effective on the mental/emotional/spiritual level and can bring about profound changes in outlook and mood. Modern life is stressful for many and essences are powerful tools to help deal with this, but even those whose lives are 'going well' can feel as if there is something important missing. In these situations, essences give clarity of mind and point the way forward, sometimes in an unexpected, yet welcome, direction!
Can essences be taken with other medication?
Essences can be safely taken alongside any other medication. They work particularly well with homeopathic remedies by complementing and supporting the healing response triggered by the remedies. Equally, they are powerful healing agents in their own right and can be used alone to great effect.
